A community based home for 9 adults with severe learning and physical difficulties

Karuna is a purpose built facility which offers single bedroom accommodation, some with en-suite facilities, for up to 9 residents. In addition to the en-suite facilities, there are 2 assisted bath/shower rooms and a staff/sleepover room. The residents and their families are encouraged to personalise their own rooms with family mementoes, photographs and personal items of furniture.

All rooms are at ground floor level, providing wheelchair access to the entire building for all our residents.
The Karuna Home provides a choice of three sitting rooms, one with an attached sunroom, where our residents can choose to relax, enjoying television, music, hobbies, dvds etc. A visit to our spa room always proves a popular choice.

A varied day care facility takes place from Monday to Friday in our large day-care/activity room, and residents can also enjoy sensory stimulation in our well equipped sensory room.

Meal times are also social times in our large kitchen/dining area, where a varied and delicious menu awaits our residents. They also regularly enjoy a shopping trip to the local supermarket to “fill the fridge”.

Additional facilities in The Karuna Home include a laundry room, a main storage room, an office and a visitor’s toilet. Externally the residents can relax in the patio area outside the sun room, perhaps water the plants, or spend some time in one of our three garden areas. In addition to our general garden, we have Zen and sensory gardens.

We also have our own transport, which is equipped to facilitate wheelchairs, so all our residents can enjoy trips out, to the cinema perhaps, or maybe a drive along the coast, as well as enabling us to attend various appointments. At times we leave the bus behind and go for a leisurely walk.
